FamilySearch Online Family History Research Lessons
What Is An Online Lesson?
Typically, it is a class that is taught by Family History Library employees, genealogy societies, community members, libraries with genealogical records, family history centers, and professional genealogists. These lessons are free and can be found at FamilySearch.
You can also see how some of the libraries, societies, and professionals have posted their classes on their websites.
Why Should I Record Classes I Teach?
- Teach hundreds more people online at familysearch.org
- Build your teaching reputation
- Share your genealogical expertise
- Educate genealogists about your resources
- Preserve a class you have taught multiple times so you can move on to new classes
- Give back to the genealogical community
- Post the class on your website
How Can I Get My Classes Online?
FamilySearch will be at select locations throughout the world at various times to record local family history classes and post them online. A presenter can also come to Salt Lake City at any time to record a class. Your recorded class will look like the Irish Research Series
This service is free, but classes must be about something related to family history research. Possible topics are:
- Research in a state, province, parish, or county
- Research tools
- Record types or collections
- Technology resources
To schedule a recording, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include your name, phone number, class title, brief summary of the class, and the location where you can record your class. (See When and Where Can I Record My Class?). FamilySearch will call you back to schedule a time for that location.
How Do I Record My Class?
