FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Centre, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

Hours: Mon - Thur: 9am - 5pm,  Sat: 9am - Noon,  Wed Evening: 6:30 - 9pm

Holiday Schedule for the remainder of 2012:        

     The Center will be closed:

          General Conference: Saturday, Oct 6

          Thanksgiving: Monday, Oct 8

          Remembrance Day Statutory: Saturday, Nov 10, and Monday, Nov 12

          Christmas Season: Monday, Dec 10 thru Sunday, Jan 6, 2013  

               Re-opens for regular hours: Monday, Jan 7, 2013

Centre Resources


  • Family History Library Catalog: This centre has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the Family History Library Catalog.  We do however, encourage patrons to order films and fiche from home computers.  Patrons are notified by email and telephone when these items are mailed from Salt Lake and arrive at the Cardston FHC.
  • (List additional collections you have such as the types of books and microfilm you have on indefinite loan; though you will not want to list every single item you have. Just give visitors to this page a general idea of your resources.)

Databases and Software

  • FHC Portal: This centre has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the centre to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions. (Note to FHC: Not all FHCs have access to this portal. If you do not, you will want to remove this entire bullet. If you do have access to it, just remove this text in italics.)
  • Databases & Software
    Genealogy database software (Ancestral Quest, Family Insight, Legacy, PAF, RootsMagic)
    Charting software (PAF Companion, Legacy Charting)
    Word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software such as Word, WordPerfect and OpenOffice (on selected machines)
    Free access to several subscription sites through the FamilySearch Portal such as, British Newspapers, Find-My-Past (UK), Footnote, Genline (Swedish), World Vital Records and others.
    Free internet access to the New England Historical and Genealogical Society (NEHGS) website

Hardware and Equipment

  • Multimedia Center
    Cardston Family History Center has an area where you can work with equipment consisting of a computer, scanner, and printer. 
  • Scan photos and transfer them to a flash drive or to a DVD. You can also make printed copies. Use the software to edit, enhance, correct, add to, or delete unwanted material from a photo-graph. 
    Scan pictures and print them on photo paper, or transfer them to your flash drive or DVD.

Volunteer at the Centre

There are two volunteers presently assisting at the Cardston FHC.  We are always looking individuals who are knowledgeable about family history and could assist patrons who come to the Center.  The commitment generally requires working one 4 hour day shift each week, or whatever the volunteer is able to contribute.
