FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

The Calhan Colorado Family History Center has served the Central Eastern Plains of Colorado since 1999. Counties included in this area are El Paso, Elbert and Lincoln. Services are free and open to the public. We invite all Family Historians to visit us and share in their research adventures. Welcome!

Center Contacts and Hours

Location & Map:

  • Address: 900 Monument Street, Calhan, CO 80808
  • No mail is received at the above address. Due to limited staff, FHCs are unable to respond to mail research inquires.
  • The Family History Center is accessed from the north parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The entrance door is on the northwest side of the building. Please ring bell for access.

Open Hours:

  • Tuesday: 10:00-2:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 10:00-2:00 pm and 6:30-9:00 pm
  • Thursday: 6:30-9:00 pm
  • Also open by appointment by calling the FHC; one of our Family History Consultants will return your call and set up a time with you.
  • Closed for inclement weather according to local and neighboring school district closings. Please, call before venturing out, we may not have made it across the snow drifted prairie.

Holiday Schedule:

Closed the week of Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas through New Year's Day, and other sporadic days throughout the year.

Class Schedule

One-on-one Assistance during business hours

To make your visit most effective, bring with you to the FHC as much information as you already have about the ancestor(s) you wish to research. The FHC Staff can then help you organize and develop a research plan to move your search forward.

Staff Training Meetings

Calhan Family History Center Staff meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month (except Nov and Dec), 6:30-7:30 pm.

Stake Family History Leadership meetings are held the 2nd Sunday of the month (except May and December) at the Meadowland Stake Center (6:30-7:30 pm). East Colorado Stake Family History Center Directors email staff concerning any other cancellations.

  • Family History Library Catalog: This center has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the Family History Library Catalog. Film may also be ordered from the convience of your own home online to be sent to the FHC by going to (you must be logged into your FamilySearch account)
  • Film $7.50 (90 day rental, short term)
  • Microfiche $4.75 per set (indefinite rental)
