'''Preparation for your Visit:'''

*Introduction to the Family History Center - A walking tour of the center, with explanations of equipment, holdings, and how ancestry information is recorded on pedigree charts and family group sheet reports. A staff member will demonstrate FamilySearch programs. Visitors will not have use of computers.
+
'''LDS Account Login:''' Each LDS member of the group needs to have an LDS Account before coming to the Library. Please have them sign in to [https://familysearch.org/ familysearch.org] or [https://www.lds.org/?lang=eng lds.org] to make sure their username and password is working. Please make sure they bring their username and password with them.
*Introduction to FamilySearch - A tour of the center, with visitors using computers to try to find information on their ancestors. Reminder: It is not realistic for individuals to expect to find a temple-ready ordinance on one visit to the center.

*Introduction to Indexing - Short training on how to index followed by hands-on experience indexing records.

*Introduction to Family History (ages 8 – 12) – A tour of the center and an age-appropriate activity to introduce youth to family history. Youth will not use computers.

We have six computers available for groups; however, if other computers are not being used, they may also be made available. If only six computers are available, groups of more than six may be split. Some will use computers while others tour different rooms, then rotate.

'''LDS Account Registration''': For members who don’t have a current account, have them register for one prior to your visit. They can do this by going to [https://ident.lds.org/sso/cdcservlet?goto=https%3A%2F%2Fldsaccount.lds.org%3A443%2F&RequestID=1499035261196&MajorVersion=1&MinorVersion=0&ProviderID=https%3A%2F%2Fsso.ldschurch.org%3A443%2Famagent&IssueInstant=2017-07-02T22%3A41%3A01Z ldsaccount.lds.org] and clicking on Register for an LDS Account below the Sign In button. Enter the necessary information, which includes their Membership Record Number (MRN) and birth date. Their MRN may be on their temple recommend or can be provided by their ward clerk. Youth 8-12 years old (under 13) will also need permission from a parent and the parent's MRN. To activate a new account, an email address is needed.

Youth groups are asked to provide one adult for every four youth. Adults accompanying youth groups should prepare to actively participate with their youth.
+
'''Personal Family History Information''': Except for Indexing visits, please have everyone attempt to create a personal pedigree chart with as much family information as possible.

We want you to have the most productive and enjoyable time here at the center. We suggest the following preparation for your visit:
+
'''Specific Goal or Objective to Accomplish''': Each group should have an idea or goal, before they arrive, of what they would like to accomplish during the visit to the library.

In order to access Family Tree or Indexing, each person needs to be registered and obtain a user ID and password BEFORE THEY COME. If the person already has registered for an LDS account (such as to access ward and stake websites), then it is not necessary to register again. If they have not yet registered, visitors can go to the [https://ldsaccount.lds.org/sign-in/go/login.jsf registration page]and follow the instructions. Please help each person register online before the group visit and remind them to bring their login information with them. You may wish to ask your ward’s family history consultant for assistance.

After registration, a verification email will be sent to the email address entered on the form. The new account must be activated within 48 hours, or the registration is voided, and the process must be started again.

Those 13 and older can register at home or with help from you or your consultant. As an alternative, you may want to schedule a “preparation” visit to the center to complete registration prior to your hands-on activity. Those under 13 must be registered by their parents.

The Church has prepared several excellent videos to introduce youth to family history. We encourage you to view these short videos with the youth before visiting the center. The videos are found on the [https://lds.org/youth/family-history?lang=eng#theTimeIsNow Youth and Family History page].

Remind the youth to bring with them for their hands-on visit:
#Their LDS Account user name and password

#A filled-in pedigree chart OR the name, birth date and birthplace of an ancestor who was born before 1901.

#Paper and pencil for taking notes of information found.

Youth groups are asked to provide one adult for each five youth. Adults accompanying youth groups should prepare to actively participate with their youth. For example: if the youth will participate in Indexing, then each adult in the group should be registered and have some experience with Indexing before the visit. Local temple and family history consultants are an excellent resource to bring with your group and will provide continuity after your visit.

Preparation for your Visit:

LDS Account Login: Each LDS member of the group needs to have an LDS Account before coming to the Library. Please have them sign in to familysearch.org or lds.org to make sure their username and password is working. Please make sure they bring their username and password with them.

LDS Account Registration: For members who don’t have a current account, have them register for one prior to your visit. They can do this by going to ldsaccount.lds.org and clicking on Register for an LDS Account below the Sign In button.

Personal Family History Information: Except for Indexing visits, please have everyone attempt to create a personal pedigree chart with as much family information as possible.
