This collection will include records from 1603-1939. The collection will contain registers of births, marriages, and deaths from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gurk in Carinthia, Austria.

You will be able to browse through images in this collection when it is published.

Record Content[edit | edit source]

Birth registers (baptisms) may contain the following information:

  • Birth date
  • Name at birth
  • Parents’ names
  • Parents’ residence

Marriage registers may contain the following information:

  • Marriage date
  • Names of bride and groom
  • Parents’ names
  • Bride/groom’s birth date or age
  • Place of marriage

Death registers may contain the following information:

  • Death date
  • Name of deceased
  • Name of closest living relative
  • Birth date
  • Cause of death

This section contains tips and information to help you search this collection and use the information you find.

As you are searching it is helpful to know such information as your ancestor's given name and the approximate town and time period in which they may have lived. Remember that there may be more than one person in the records with the same name as your ancestor and that your ancestor may have used nicknames or different names at different times.

To search by image: follow these links:

⇒Select the "Event Type"
⇒Select the "Inclusive Years" which takes you to the images

Search the collection by image comparing the information you find with what you already know about your ancestors to determine if the record relates to them. You may need to compare several images to make this determination.

Using the Information[edit | edit source]

  • Use your ancestor’s estimated age and date of the event to calculate a birth date.
  • Note individuals listed as witnesses or godparents. Witnesses and godparents were often relatives.
  • Try searching for the parents’ marriage record in the same town or county where the child’s birth record is found.
