History

Parent County

1907--Atoka County was created 16 July 1907 from Choctaw Lands. County seat: Atoka [2]

Description

Atoka County was retained after 1907 statehood. The county and county seat name honors a noted Choctaw warrior, Captain Atoka, who led a removal party to present Oklahoma. [3]
