FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

  • This is not a mailing address. Due to limited staff, Family History Centers are unable to respond to mail inquiries.
  • Family History Center entrance is located at the left side door near the back of the church building.

Family History Fair

Saturday, September 13, 2014 - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- Albany Stake Center, located at 411 Loudon Road, Loudonville, NY.
• Classes for all levels of family history experience will be offered with live speakers and recorded sessions from the Rootstech Conference 2014, the largest family history conference in North America.
• Ages 12 years old and up are invited.
• Online registration is available for the conference at www.lds.org/familyhistoryfair
• Registration will begin at 9:30 am followed by a general session at 10 AM.
• Free lunch will be served or you may go out to eat at a local restaurant.
• We will have a display of family pedigree charts in the cultural hall. You are welcome to bring a copy of your pedigree chart(s) to add to the display. We are not responsible for loss or damage to any charts.

Class 1- Identify a place of origin for your Irish ancestor, Lisa Dougherty, presenter (Chapel)
Class 2- Storytelling Superpowers: How to Come Off as Your Family's Genealogy Hero (Primary room)
Class 3- Basic Online Resources for the Beginning Genealogist (Relief Society Room)
Class 4- From Chaos to C.A.L.M-Organizing Digital Photos (Rooms 109/110)

1 PM – 2 PM
Class 5- Albany County records, John McEneny, presenter (tentative) (Chapel)
Class 6- Getting the most out of Ancestry (Primary room)
Class 7- Top 10 things I learned about my family from my couch (Relief Society Room)
Class 8- Facebook is Family History (Rooms 109/110)
Class 9- Prepare family names for Temple work (LDS members)(Family History Center)

2:15 PM – 3:15 PM
Class 10- How to Scan an Elephant: Digitizing Your Family History from Artifact to Zombie (Chapel)
Class 11- Indexing workshop with Joyce Galusha (Cultural Hall)
Class 12- Five Ways to do Genealogy in Your Sleep (Primary room)
Class 13- How to Interview Yourself for a Personal History (Relief Society Room)
Class 14- Ipad workshop with Cindy Rowzee (Rooms 109/110)

3:30 PM – 4 PM
Class 15- Adding Sources to Family Tree, Joan Parslow, presenter (Chapel)
Class 16- My Tree is Full, What Next? (Cultural Hall)
Class 17- Put Family in Family History: Fun Family History Activities (Primary room)

  • The Albany NY Family History Center has copies of the Rensselaer County rural cemetery records on microfilm.

Databases and Software

  • FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.

 Hardware and Equipment

Readers are available for patrons to view the films and fiche ordered through the Family History Library Catalog. This center has a digital imaging system to save or print copies of images from microfilm.
