Access Codes

Different sites have different requirements for access to the information. Commercial and non-commercial sites use different ways.

LAR

Library access card is required.

Heritagequestonline.com list of libraries having access. Some restrictions apply.

F

Free access, no registration required at all.

Examples:

  2. American Local History Network
  3. American History and Genealogy Project
  4. FamilySearch.org

FR

Free access to information, registration / subscription is required to post any information.

Examples:

  1. Ancestry.com message boards
  2. Rootsweb.com
  3. Rootsweb Mailing lists
  4. Webtree.com

FI$

Free access to indexes, must pay for subscription or order record to see full information

Examples:

  1. Cook County Genealogy (Cook County government site)
  2. Illinois Death Certificate Index
  3. Italiangen.org
  4. Germangen.org
  5. Sampubco.com
  6. Ancestry.com databases (partial indexing) (Free access at selected Family History centers)
