Oregon FHCs[edit source]

Gilliam and Sherman counties - they go to Boardman and Hermiston FHCs, not Grant County. Jefferson County, go to Deschutes County (Bend FHC), just across county line. Harney and Malheur counties (particular those in south part of them) go to Winnemucca, Nevada. Noticed Halfway (Pine Valley FHC) is new one for Baker County beside long time one at Baker City. "Looking for help" box[edit source]

I'm glad to see there are people interested in helping to clean up the wiki.

I was surprised to see the "Looking for help" box appear with my discussion within the Contributors Meeting for 19 July 2011. This seems to be a misinterpretation of my intent. I'm not looking for help. I'm wanting to discuss this issue with wiki contributors. I placed an item on the agenda and expanded on the topic within the discussion page, as instructed. Please let me know why you inserted this box. Charlene Pipkin 21:21, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Wrong type of transcription[edit source]

The transcripton for Tech meeting agenda is not the kind we wanted. I am talking about who said what about what and what urls and examples shown, etc. That is the area we are missing out too much. Transcription from the recording is what I and others are seeking. Dsammy 09:17, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

File name for image uploads[edit source]

Hi Sandra, I've noticed that many of the files you are uploading start with Downloaded and then a string of numbers before a recognisable name is then included. It would be helpful if these filenames were edited so as to be more user friendly before the images are uploaded. I'm guessing that you may be processing files that other users have submitted, but would it be possible for the files to be renamed before upload? --Steve (talk| contribs) 13:05, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Outdated Pages notice to LoisFowles[edit source]

Hi, Sandra. Lois Fowles was helping me move stuff from the old Research Guidance into the Wiki. We didn't have a good template to name them, so we added the "outdated" template. They probably should not be removed until someone compares them with info already in the Wiki. Fran Jensen knows a lot about that project. A list of them is in the pages related to FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Copy Research Guidance and Help Content into the Wiki. Hope this helps.AdkinsWH 03:53, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Stub Removal[edit source]

We at the FamilySearch Wiki would like to use this article, Humboldt County, Nevada for a featured article on the Main Page of the Wiki. However, the word "stub" appears at the very top of the page. If you feel there is enough content to give researchers a good place to work from - we need YOU to remove the word "stub" from the article before we can feature it.
Thank you for your consideration.

When redirection is a better option to deletion[edit source]

Hi Sandra, I've noticed that you've been adding reasons to page that have been marked for deletion. I'm glad you are doing this as it helps other understand the reason for the request.

While there are some good reasons why deleting a page is justified there are also circumstances where a redirect is a better option.

So if you find out the reason why a user has requested that a page is deleted is due to the content having been moved - in these cases change the {{Delete}} template for a redirect. --Steve (talk| contribs) 15:38, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Civil War[edit source]

Thanks, Sandra, for moving some of the Civil War sandboxes.  I am working on moving the rest and attaching them to the main Civil War project page (which I am still working on).  MarkhamMJ 23:22, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

I am naming them FamilySearchWiki:WikiProject United States Civil War/Sandbox.cw1936, though what comes after Sandbox will vary of course.  I am deleting some of the sandboxes, but some are still needed or we may use them later.  MarkhamMJ 16:00, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Headings on County Pages for Utah[edit source]

Hi Sandralpond,

We appreciate the discussions and decisions made by a community of experts and interested parties regarding headings on the county pages especially for New York and Illinois, We want to adopt many of those changes and adapt some specifically for Utah. Will you please review the page for FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Utah County Headings county headings in Utah and make comments on its discussion page?

Some volunteers for WikiProject Utah have already begun adapting the county pages. Your great suggestions will be implemented later, and we need to move now to prepare for a big push in January 2012.

Making your comments on the discussion page will allow for transparency, progress and improvement.

Thank you Wilma Adkins, WikiProject Utah manager; Marilyn Markham and Patsy Hendrickson, content specialists; and Dawne Hole and (Joy) Wyzer17, communications and volunteers liaisons.

Move proposal - Durham vs County Durham[edit source]

Hi Sandra, I noticed that you removed the move template from Talk:Durham page, but you did not add any comments about whether you supported the proposal or not. I would be interested to hear and understand your point of view. --Steve (talk| contribs) 15:21, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Sandra, I see that you moved the Talk:Durham to Talk:County Durham and removed the move request template. My request was not just about moving this single page, but if agreed would result in many pages being renamed in the wiki. For this reason I hope to generate a discussion about the pros and cons for such a move. Nobody else has voiced their opinion, but I am still reluctant to follow through on making these changes without hearing some other views. --Steve (talk| contribs) 16:04, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Pages created to hide red links[edit source]

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for your message on the deletion requests.

The reason I marked those pages for deletion was because they were apparently created for the sole purpose of hiding the red links on the main pages for those locations. Most wikis have a policy on not doing this. The pages currently contain no content and only a link back to the page where the reader just came from. This can be very frustrating to users as users like me will click on the links to read what is there only to find there is nothing there. There are over 35 topics links for the locations of Prussia - Pommern and Prussia - Posen and most had no content whatsoever.

The red links provide a valuable service of informing users that there is no content on that topic as of yet, and that the content is being requested. Additionally, red linked pages are automatically listed in the special page: Special:WantedPages for users looking for pages needing content.

Deleting the pages that were created only to hide the red links would not prevent the addition of content in the future, but would instead encourage it and would stop frustrating readers that click on 30 out of 35 links only to find nothing there. Lotje2 23:14, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Serbia[edit source]

Hello Sandra, thank you for helping with the Serbia page.

I was trying to find some missing content from the page but was unable to. I hope that you can recover the Featured Content and Jurisdictions and Letter Writing Guide and Websites under Research Tools.

Protected pages[edit source]

Thank you for un-protecting those pages for me. There only appear to be four others that were accidentally left protected after they were changed to un-portals. I will flag them in the same way. Thank again. Lotje2 22:11, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Changes to Stockholm page[edit source]

Hi Sandra,

I appreciate your work to move the content for Stockholm City out of the namespace, but I do not understand why you put in content from Slovenia! Also, there were many other links on the Stockholm City page that have completely disappeared. If a Portal page is moved out of the Portal namespace, then the new page should have all the content and functionality of the old page before the old page is deleted.

Denmark Archives and Libraries Link problems:[edit source]

Sandra, I am a former CSM.  As I was researching in Denmark, I found two inappropriate links in the above mentioned article.  Since the last two links under the heading, "Other Libraries", lead to 1) a gaming site and 2) to a commercial site, I did not delete them.  Since you have worked with linking extensively, I thought you might know who to contact who might block the offender, if deemed necessary.  (I could not figure out who had changed the links.)  All other links in this article are correct except for one dead link about three above the heading "Military Records".  Thanks in advance for your help.  Gloriaannclark 02:38, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Denbighshire[edit source]

Does your newly created category of Parishes of Historic Denbighshire refer to historic Denbighshire (i.e. pre-1974) or modern Denbighshire (i.e. post 1976)?

So far you have included places which were either in the historic counties of Denbighshire and Merionethshire, and are now in either the modern counties of Denbighshire, Conwy or Wrexham!!!

See Denbighshire, Wales Genealogy.

Adding categories to templates[edit source]

Hi Sandra,

I think you are doing a wonderful job adding categories to templates. May I offer one suggestion, particularly for any template that might be Help:Transclusion, that you wrap the category in <noinclude></noinclude> tags otherwise the category is added to every page that uses the template.

For example use

to add the example category to a template. Also worth noting is avoid adding any spaces or line breaks after the end of the template code proper.

If you have any question about these suggestions, just let me know. --Steve (talk| contribs) 20:44, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Massachusetts 1855 State Census (FamilySearch Historical Records)/Known Issues[edit source]

The best way to remove a link that connects to a page is to go to that page and remove the link. You can also replace it with a new link.

Example: Massachusetts 1855 State Census (FamilySearch Historical Records)/Known Issues can be changes to Massachusetts 1855 State Census (FamilySearch Historical Records).

1st question are you going to remove or replace the links:

to remove: Step 1 Go to the What is linked Here under Toolbox on the right and click each item into a new tab Step 2 go onto page on e at a time and go into wiki text highlight link, delete and save.

To replace Step 1 find what you will replace the link with. step 2 Go to the What is linked Here under Toolbox on the right and click each item into a new tab Step 3 go onto page on e at a time and go into wiki text highlite link, Place the new link over, and save.

Dear Sandra,

I just noticed one of my entries was removed and I am wondering why that occurred. It was a graph I created with translations of the 1938 census. This was to help the patrons use these films and understand why they would be helpful to them especially when doing Jewish research.

Wales[edit source]

I'm attempting to do a full restructure of the Wales Genealogy pages!

Currently, I feel that it is difficult for people to understand the difference between the concepts of an "ecclesiastical parish", a "civil parish" and a "community". Add to that the restructuring of counties in 1974 and 1996 (at at other times in some cases!) and it leads to total confusion!

So I believe that it would make far more sense to haveone-stop pages on "places" and standardise on the current status, so the page Chirk, Wrexham, Wales Genealogy for example, would refer to "Chirk, Denbighshire", "Chirk, Clwyd" and "Chirk, Wrexham" and include information on the "ecclesiastical parish of Chirk", the "civil parish of Chirk" and the "community of Chirk", and in reality anything else to do with the town of Chirk. I know the LDS Library would prefer to base everything on historic ecclesiastical parishes but this is far too narrow a view.

I'm starting in the north of the country and working my way south. This will take time, will mean lots of changes, and occasionally many redirects!!! But is will all fit together "eventually" ;-) --Bromaelor 13:08, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Lack of Access[edit source]

Hi Sandra

Thanks for your quick response.  I remember you embedded the link to the Romanian National Archives. Maybe a more precise description of the problem will help.  When I go to a wiki page to edit it, I get into the rich editor just fine.  I can type and save text.  But when I click <r> or the icons to add a link, category, the properties box starts loading, but then my computer freezes up.  I waited 10 minutes today for the dialog box to finish loading, to no avail.  What can be done about that?

Thanks again.   Wiliam Green

Yay! You were right.  I was going to try editing on my Chrome, but I forgot.  I was able to reference and link using Chrome.  However, when I try to add a category, the category list doesn't load.  I get the message Bad Gateway: The server returned an incomplete or invalid response.  I think that may be due to my internet connection here in Romania.  I did create a new page: Romania Citizenship records.  Will that be added to the "topics" section of the Romania Portal Page when the category "Romania" is put on the page or do I have to do something else.  I have about 10 more pages I want to add to the Romania section on different records available here.  So the question goes for all 10.  Then I want to add the pages in Romanian.  I have added one called "Romania - Cercetarea Istoriei Familiei" (Romania - Researching Family History).  I would like to link that to the Romania Portal Page and then link the other pages in Romanian to it.  Is this all possible?  Thanks.  Also, do I need to notify the missionary at support that my linking problem has been resolved?Billgreen 17:02, 27 May 2013 (UTC)William Green ::Ok, I am learning.  I did figure out how to add a category without the Editor, and how to add a topic to the Romania Portal Page.  You can see the new page on Romanian Citizenship records.  Unfortunately, I accidentally created a duplicate page on citizenship records in the process.  I have requested that it be deleted.  I will be adding more pages later this week, I hope.Billgreen 17:32, 27 May 2013 (UTC)William Green

Trouble again in Romania[edit source]

Hi Sandra

I am still not getting all the buttons to work.  When I try to add a category, link (it used to work) or image, the search list comes up blank--nothing found.  I was working on the Romanian maps--I have several to add to the page:  Romania_counties, Romania_1600, United _Principalities 1859-1878, as well as the map that in on the Portal page and then the one on the History page.  But, like I said I can't get to any of them.

I also would like to add another category named Romania Cercetare for the pages that appear in Romanian.  Or someone could open up a set of pages with the URL  That would be cool.

Finally, I would like to separate the Archives and Libraries page, into an Archives page and a Libraries page.  I tried to do that, but only ended up creating another blank page entitled Archives.  I don't remember in the training anything about splitting a page.  If I rename the Archives and Libraries page, to Archives, will the link in the Portal page update?  Then, I could create the new Libraries page.  I don't want to mess too much with the wiki trying this out.

Thanks for all your help.  If you could load the images and create the category, that would be cool, too.

Hi Sandra

Sorry I have been so long without contacting you.  I have been assigned some projects here in Romania by the mission president.  But now I have more time to work on the wiki again.  I have added two more pages regarding military archives and the archives of the secret police.  I would really like to get some more training on the Message Center, and how to fix my problems, if possible, with adding links and stuff.  I have almost added all the information I have about Romania on the wiki.

I got an email from Robin Foster who asked me if I would accept the assignment to work on the Romanian pages.  I accepted.  She mentioned that there are chat centers on G+ (is this Google Plus?) and Skype,  but both sites said I have to receive an invitation to join the group.  My user name on Google and Skype is romaniangringo.  Can I get an invitation?  Thanks Billgreen 10:44, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Bill

WOW, Sandra! YOU are on top of it! I forgot to sign my name to the Delete request. Someone pointed out that a "too cutesy" name could cause a lack of credibility. So I am the one who changed it.

Hi Sandy[edit source]

Request to delete pages[edit source]

Thank you for your encouragement. The pages Vistafhc and VistaFHC were placed to redirect our patrons to the original FamilySearch created Vista_California_Family_History_Center.

These short versions have been useful in having the community patron locate our times and classes with the browser search engines without the need to type out the whole page address. They have also allowed us to place a shorter URL on the business card we pass out.

If there is a better way to accomplish this please advise as I'm definately a novice with the WIKI. All I've learned to do so far is expand our original stub and keep our schedule and classes up to date. Well I've also done some very minor edits on other pages as well and I do mean minor.

Thank you,

David Paskett (Pasketd)

Extinct Counties of Arizona[edit source]

I just came across in the Family Search Wiki, a Category called Extinct Counties of Arizona created by you on 17 June 2013. I don't understand why this exists. This information already is a section on the Arizona, United States Genealogy page, called Extinct or Renamed Counties of Arizona. And there is a thorough explanation in the article called Previous Jurisdictions to land in Arizona.

Also the name is poorly chosen. There is one and only one extinct county in Arizona. That is Pah-Ute County, Arizona Genealogy. And somehow that county never made it into your Category listing. You don't need a separate Category for one article.

Of the other supposed Arizona counties, 10 of them are New Mexico or Utah counties, discontinued when Arizona was created. They were never Arizona counties.

The other 3 supposed Arizona counties were proposed by an unofficial group in 1861 which then petitioned the US congress to create an Arizona Territory. Congress rejected the proposal, so those counties were never created.

Your Category is suppose to be about Extinct Counties of Arizona. But none of the counties listed were created by Arizona. So I ask again, why does your Category exist?

sabwoo 24 July 2014, 7:10 MST

Thank you for letting me rant. I find it frustrating when someone refuses to see a county of Arizona as created by Arizona and then make up fictious counties or history to justify their position. I had just read over the messages I had with two such contributers, when I ran across your Category. It seemed much like what I had faced before.
I am sorry that I was so critical. You were very diplomatic. And I have taken your suggestion and cleared up most of the problem. I removed all the New Mexico counties from before Arizona was created. But left in the ones that covered land in Arizona after Arizona was created. Thank you again for your answer.

Categories for template /doc pages[edit source]

Hi, Sandra! What category should a /doc page be? We have a category "Templates for the (state such as AR) pages." But what should their /doc page be categorized as? Thanks, AdkinsWH 20:12, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

But if they have the same category as the template page, the category list is doubled (and almost unreadable) in one such as. Is there any way to have a different, meaningful category for the /docs? If it has to be, then it has to be.

I am just wondering whether that title provides an accurate and clear idea of what the article contains.  I wrote it with the goal of providing an overview of the resources and often unique considerations for research in Cornwall.  The new title would seem (at least in my mind) to suggest that it is a page with family trees or other compilations of genealogic data.  I did not include any data in the article, but intended that it might help someone who has ancestors in Cornwall to know of the many rich sources that might be used, which is why I just used the simple title "Cornwall Genealogy."

Perhaps I am mistaken in what is suggested by the new title that you have given it, and if so, I apologize. However, I thought that the new title would give the impression that the content of the article is something different from what it is.

My error, I apologize. All fixed, few links because they were templates. Parrisl 21:39, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Creepy categories[edit source]

Thanks for patiently changing my category errors. I have moved about 700 pages in the last week and a half--about half of them clicking three to five times because of indexing. I almost always redo them if it comes up in red--thought I was catching everything. I apologize if it has made an extra workload for you! Research and Methodology was supposed to be Instruction and Methodology. I will go look at the Uploading Images page and see where it goes. Please contact me about any questions you have. Now I have to send a lot of templates off to be categorized.

Thank you[edit source]

Than you for deleting all those blank pages. That drives me crazy but I am always afraid to delete Historical Records messes.Sjkennedy 13:47, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
