Banai is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists. She is a leader in the Utah Jewish Genealogical Society where she is the Treasurer, Webmaster, Past President, and previously was the Newsletter Editor.

She also serves as the webmaster for the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS), was co-chair of the 34th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy in Salt Lake City, and is currently volunteering as webmaster for the 36th IAJGS Conference in Seattle.
