Parish records vs. Parish Registers
Hi Steve, How would we feel about changing the terms "Parish records" to "Parish Registers" under the "Records begin" section? Murphynw 18:47, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Rural Deaneries and Deaneries
I looked at the code and am not sure how to add 'Deanry' into the mix. Rural Deanry and Deanry are not the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donjgen (talk | contribs) 18:05, November 14, 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Don, I agree that Rural Deaneries are different, they are subdivisions of an archdeaconries comprising a number of parishes. Whereas a deanery is associated with a cathedral and so is not a jurisdiction. Perhaps it would help if you could please explain where and how you would like to use deanery instead of rural deanery. --Steve 08:28, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi Steve, I have put the jurisdiction table on the Heveningham parish page. I am trying to decide if I should put it on other parish pages. The reason I inquired about the Deanry, is because the early (pre 1813) Suffolk Bishop Transcripts on film are organized by year, then Deanry, then Parish. I thought it would be helpful to have the Deanry recorded in this table. I don't believe that I have found any other county that has there Bishop Trancripts organized that way. As far as a finding aid at some time in the future someone will need to create a page listed with all the deanries and what parishes are in them. Donjgen 00:12, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Don, I see that you have added South Dunwich as the Rural Deanery for Heveningham parish, so do I take it that your concern is now resolved? I think you're right in the future a page about each deanery listing the parishes that form it would be useful for other researchers. I think the other issue to consider is boundary changes as Heveningham is now part of the Deanery of Halesworth, Archdeaconry of Suffolk, Diocese of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich. My view is that current information is presented with a historical listing of previous jurisdictions by time period. --Steve 17:57, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
I can see you were trying to amend how the template creates the Poor Law Union links. If you are able to put in words what you would like to achieve, I may be able to help.
Currently when the template is used a parameter named Poor Law Union can be defined. See for example Abbotsbury, Dorset which was part of the Weymouth PLU. The parameter is defined as Poor Law Union = Weymouth and this creates a link to the page Weymouth Poor Law Union, Dorset using the link text Weymouth PLU.
