Talk:United States Census Veterans Schedules
This page says "When the 1840 census was taken, the enumerators listed living pensioners of the Revolutionary War or other military service on the back of the population schedules. They listed pensioners' ages and persons with whom they were living"
Really? I've seen entries for veterans that appear on the top line, and there is no one in that household old enough to be the veteran. At least in some (many?) cases it seems the enumerator regarded the veterans and schools entries as being independent of the household entries.
