Swedish Domsaga

The rural areas of Sweden were divided into judicial administrative areas called Domsagor that were made up of one or more härads or tingslags. In every Domsaga there was a district judge who also acted as chairman in the respective Domsaga or Domsagor that belong to the Häradsrätterna.

A map of the legal districts of Sweden's hovrätter (courts of appeal) and tingsrätter (district courts). The colour shows which hovrätt a particular tingsrätt belongs to.

  • Historically the Domsaga was an appellate court. It was a level above the tingslag or härad court.
