The principal language of the Orthodox records is Serbo-Croatian written in Serbian Church Slavonic script, derived from old Cyrillic script. The Catholic records are in Latin until 1848, then in Hungarian. Both are written in Roman script. Records of the Ottoman period are written in Ottoman Turkish (Turkish in Arabic script).
