Saint Martin Island

Saint Martin is a Caribbean island, divided roughly across the middle into two countries: Saint Martin (under the jurisdiction of the French Republic) and Sint Maarten (under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). The border between the two countries changed roughly 16 times between 1648 and 1815. The population of Saint Martin and Sint Maarten are roughly equal, and the land area of the two countries combined is about 87 km².
