Family Reunion Visits[edit | edit source]

Generations Linked in Love[edit | edit source]

“When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves.  Our inborn yearning for family connections are fulfilled when we are linked to our ancestors through sacred ordinances of the temple” - President Russell M. Nelson

Family reunions at the Riverton FamilySearch Library can be tailored to the family’s interests and time available. Come for 2, 4 or 6 hours, or anything in between. Receive instructions and practice on family history skills, have a place to collaborate on your research findings together. If scheduled in advance, you can use our Family Story Room and the scanning and conversion equipment to record and save your family memories.

Review the following guidelines before scheduling a group visit.  Scroll down the page to the link to check availability (just before the calendar) and submit a request for your group visit.

Logistics[edit | edit source]

  • Group Size:

The library can accommodate family groups up to 50 people.  Children will need to be supervised by someone in your family group.  Activities are available for children.

  • Cost:

Copies of any documents found during your visit can be printed at the library without a charge. Only single copies of family history printing will be allowed. Personal or extensive printing should be taken to a commercial copy center.

  • Available Times:

Family reunions at the Riverton FamilySearch Library can be tailored to the family’s interests and time available.

Family reunions can be scheduled Monday through Saturday, except on holidays.  Available time blocks are as follows:

Monday thru Saturday:  10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00

  • Reservations:

Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.  Book early to secure a date.  After you submit your reservation, the Family Reunion Coordinator will call to schedule the time of day and presentations you request.

Before making your reservation, check available dates and times in the monthly calendars below.  Please allow a fourteen (14) day advanced notice when making a reservation request, especially if presentations are desired.  Your reservation is not confirmed until you receive an e-mail from our Family Reunion Coordinator.

After checking the availability below by scrolling down the page to the calendar, use the link Online Reservation Request to request a group visit. All visits should be made using through the link. Telephone reservations are not accepted.

Important Preparations for a Successful and Rewarding Visit[edit | edit source]

Detailed instructions for participants will be sent to the family reunion’s contact person following registration.  The following suggestions will make your visit more successful:

Member Account Log-in:  Each member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the group should have a Member Account before coming to the Library. Please have them check user name and password before coming to make sure it is working. For members who don’t have a current account, have them register for one prior to your visit. Those not eligible for a member account can register for a FamilySearch account.

Account Registration:  For those who do not have a current account, have them register for one prior to your visit. They can do this by going to https://account.churchofjesuschrist.org and clicking on the “Register for an Account” button below the blue “Sign in” in the center of the screen.  Enter the necessary information, which includes their church membership number and birth date.  Their membership number is on their temple recommend or can be provided by their Ward Clerk.  Youth 8-12 years old will also need permission from a parent and the parent’s MRN. To activate a new account, an email address is needed.

Personal Family History Information:  Except for Indexing visits, please have everyone attempt to create a personal pedigree chart with as much family information as possible. This will be of great help when searching at the library.

Specific Goal or Objective to Accomplish:  Each group should have an idea or goal, before they arrive, of what they would like to accomplish during the visit to the library.

Family Reunion Organizing Tips:  Ideas for organizing and planning family reunions are available on the Riverton FamilySearch Library website, “familysearch.org/fhc/riverton”.  On the left menu, click on Family Discovery Day.  At the bottom of the page, click on Discovery Day January 2017 Handouts and Worksheets.  Open a folder of your choice for reunion ideas.

Group Visit Options:[edit | edit source]

Family reunion groups can choose to participate in the following presentations which last about 20-25 minutes each.

Finding Names to Take to the Temple:  Learn how to do original research with tips on using search functions to find and document new people on ancestor or descendant lines. Shows how to reserve names for temple ordinances and print ordinance cards. Help others feel the Spirit in this important work. Discusses the Apostolic Temple Challenge.
Beginning Research Techniques:  Teaches how to use the search function; manipulate data; use the Collections tab and other basic research strategies.  For those wanting to find and document new people on their ancestor or descendant lines.  Intermediate level.
