Parish History

PIDDINGHOE, (St John the Evangelist) an ancient parish, in the union of Newhaven, hundred of Holmstrow, rape of Lewes, E. division of Sussex, 5½ miles (S. by E.) from Lewes. It is intersected by the road from Lewes to Newhaven, and bounded on the east by the Ouse river, and on the south by the English Channel. The church, which is principally of flint, with a circular tower, is in the early English style.[1]
