Pearl River

The Pearl River, running through Mississippi and Louisiana forms a portion of the boundary between the two states. It is approximately 444 miles long eventually running into the Gulf of Mexico. The US Army Corps of Engineers has undertaken a series of projects designed to improve the navigation capabilities of the river including three locks that allowed for movement from one elevation to another. The states are slowly removing the improvements and projects to improve the habitat for the various kinds of wildlife and fish in the area and to allow the natural river activities to resume.

The River runs through the following towns in Mississippi:

  • Philadelphia
  • Pearl River
  • Carthage
  • Flowood
  • Pearl
  • Georgetown
  • Rockport
  • Monticello
  • Columbia
  • Picayune
  • Pearlington

and the following towns in Louisiana.

  • Bogalusa
  • Pearl River
