  • Palencia was a hacienda during the colonial era. In 1624; Mathias de Palencia acquired the hacienda in 1624, and from that moment the town was called "Hacienda de Palencia".
  • The constitution decreed that Palencia had to be part of the northern circuit of Guatemala City.
  • The town of Palencia was formed on May 28, 1872.
  • The municipality of Palencia has a population of approximately 53,000 people[1]
