Madison County, Kansas was organized August 25, 1855, organized September 24 1855, but was defunct by January 31, 1861. Kansas Historical Society

The Madison County seat was Columbia . Kansas Historical Society

Origin of Name[edit | edit source]

It may have be named for James Madison (1751-1836), the fourth president of the United States

Location[edit | edit source]

Madison county was divided in 1861half to Breckenridge county. Now this county is all in Lyon County The other half into Greenwood County . More infomation can be gained at Kansas Historical Society
