History[edit | edit source]

Leyburn had a parish workhouse which was part of a Poor Law Incorporation but this had ended prior to the introduction of the Poor Law Union which was formed on 22 February 1837. The existing workhouse was adapted to accommodate over 100 people and was not replaced until the new workhouse was constructed from 1875-1877.
