Daniel Boone led the first settlers into Kentucky in 1775, through the Cumberland Gap. Kentucky became the 15th state to join the Union on June 1, 1792. There was a large migration into the territory around this time, that extending into the early 1800s. Kentucky was created from part of Virginia (District of Kentucky: Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties)and is located in the east south-central region of the United States.The State has 120 counties. The Capital city is Frankfort.
