Research use: Excellent for family and relationship linkage. They identify names of parents, prove other relationships, and are very useful for linking generations.

Record type: Baptisms, marriages, burials for Europeans and Christianized Africans.

Time period: 1870 to present.

Contents: Baptism – name, dates of birth and christening, names of parents, residence, names of witnesses at christening and their residence Marriage – date and place of marriage; name of couple. Death – name, residence, age of the deceased, place of death and burial, names of family members or other relatives.

Location: Diocese archives.

Population coverage: Estimated to include 80% of the French colonial population; approximately 10% of the native population.

Reliability: Good.

Accessibility: Some information can be obtained by correspondence or by visit if proof of close relationship is given.[1]
