Civil Registration

Civil registration (Pendaftaran sipil: kelahiran, perkawinan, kematian)

Civil registration includes records of births, marriages, marriage applications, deaths, divorces. The earliest records date from 1828 during the Dutch colonial period. Some civil marriages and deaths were recorded as early as 1750. A number of records were destroyed during the Second World War. Records can be found at the National Archives and local civil registry offices.
