This collection consists of an index to selected death records throughout Hawaii for the years 1841 to 1925.

Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. These images can be viewed at the Family History Library or a Family History Center near you.

  • The name of the deceased
  • The date of birth
  • The place of birth
  • Date of death
  • Place of death

  • Parents’ names
  • Marital status
  • Name of spouse
  • Date of burial
  • Place of burial

How Do I Search the Collection?[edit | edit source]

Before searching this collection, it is helpful to know:

  • The name of the deceased
  • The approximate date of death

Search the Index[edit | edit source]

Search by name by visiting the Collection Details Page.
  1. Fill in the search boxes in the Search Collection section with the information you know
  2. Click Search to show possible matches

How Do I Analyze the Results?[edit | edit source]

Compare each result from your search with what you know to determine if there is a match. This may require viewing multiple records or images.

What Do I Do Next?[edit | edit source]

I Found the Person I Was Looking For, What Now?[edit | edit source]

  • Search for the death record once found in the index
  • Use the information found in the record to find land, probate and immigration records
  • Use the information found in the record to find additional family members in census records
  • Search for church records
  • Search for an obituary and cemetery record

I Can’t Find The Person I’m Looking For, What Now?[edit | edit source]

  • If your ancestor does not have a common name, collect entries for every person who has the same surname. This list can help you find possible relatives
  • If you cannot locate your ancestor in the locality in which you believe they lived, then try searching records of a nearby town or county
  • Try different spellings of your ancestor’s name
  • Remember that sometimes individuals went by nicknames or alternated between using first and middle names, or even initials
