French Colonization (1763-1809)[edit | edit source]

In 1763 a large group of French settlers were sent to establish French Guiana. A Portuguese military effort took French Guiana in 1809. [1]

Portuugese Colonization (1809-1814)[edit | edit source]

In 1809 a Portuguese military action took French Guiana and gave it to the Portuguese in Brazil. It was returned to France control in 1814. [2]

French Colonization (1814-today)[edit | edit source]

The French received back control of French Guiana from the Portuguese in 1814. French Guiana continues as an overseas department and region of France today. [3]
