Taxation Records [Lensregnskaber, Jordebogsregnskaber]

Research Use: Taxation records cover gaps in church records. They contain useful lineage linking information, and can be used to establish relationships.

Record Type: Records of land taxation.

Time Period: 1584 to present.

Contents: Tax lists and real estate registers of owners and cultivators of farms; descriptions of land and property; some list primarily quantities of land and monetary amounts; others list heads of taxed households; sometimes entire families are listed.

Location: National Archives [Rigsarkivet] in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Percentage in Family History Library: 100%. The Library has taxation records through 1848.

Population Coverage: 20 to 60%.[1]
