Purpose of the meeting

Improve the Wiki

  • Forge solutions with other community contributors.
  • Share best practices, ideas, and content.
  • Discuss current issues, community matters, and strategies.
  • Move issues to decision.

Introduce new members

Kudos go to ...

  • Wilma - thanks for updating the Forums section of this page each week and adding new meetings.

Updates and follow up

  • Please take the time to vote to reactivate the "Thumbs up/Thumbs Down" feature.  Unfortunately, the poll is buried under the "General Indexing" forum, so wiki contributors or users of other forums will not be aware.  Share the link and encourage people to vote if this feature is important to you. • FGS Logo.png
There is a FGS user badge available now.  Lise would like to see about getting Thomas MacEntee to put out a blast about the user badge, and she was going to put something on the Facebook Wiki community.  Are there any other ideas for getting this advertised?

New Agenda Items

  • Personal genealogy on the Wiki
  • FamilySearch accepts PDF's, such as transcriptions from cemeteries.  Nathan will get information.
  • Add a link on the Content template to "Try Another Wiki".  David Dilts will take care of it.  Also, when the template is added, add a  parameter explaining the problem.
  • Community Council - is in progress
  • Purpose, etc. will be posted on Forums
  • Interaction with other organizations, such as USGenWeb, who are contributing to the Wiki.
  • What about the Brits?
  • The council will need credibility
  • Six community members, liasions from other organizations, such as FGS, international representation
  • Meet monthly, then have quarterly meetings with other organizations, coincide with genealogy conferences, etc.
  • Need incentive for people to participate.
  • Agenda page - add tips and tricks to the top of the agenda

Forums Overview

Be part of the solution! Make your opinions known! Post comments to an existing thread or start a new discussion at Wiki Contributors Corner forum.
Current forum threads of interest:

New since last update

  • Community meetings or forums? Should we have both? - Both are needed.  How do we keep people from feeling excluded?  Create a sticky thread about the meetings with a link to the page with the agenda's on it.
  • Tasks vs. Topics Best sources at the top as well as other suggestions.
  • Posting Hours or other information that may change Don't want to keep having to update. Some interesting discussions also going on here. One comment about don't make the style guide a straight jacket [that discourages contribution.]
  • References in the wiki Some want the citation with the text, others as a reference or footnote.  (Lise  will put together a proprosal for a style guide change.)
  • Procedure for Policy Changes  link to discussion page and put template on sandbox.  If the person proposing the change can't put the survey on, how do they find someone who can?
