Do not index records for individuals unless they were actually mentioned in the obituary. Click here for examples of when to add records for spouses whose names were mentioned together (for example, Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson or George [Mary] Johnson).
Grandchildren: All of the following should be indexed as Grandchild (or Grandson or Granddaughter, as appropriate) in the Relative's Relationship to Deceased field: spouses of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their spouses, and step-grandchildren and their spouses. Click here for an example.
Grandparents: All of the following should be indexed as Grandparent (or Grandfather or Grandmother, as appropriate) in the Relative's Relationship to Deceased field: great-grandparents, step-grandparents, and so on.
If the gender of parents was not otherwise indicated in the obituary, DO NOT assume the gender by the individuals' names or by the order in which they were listed; index the records instead with Parent in the Relative's Relationship to Deceased field.
When two newspapers were recorded on the same document, you should index the name of both newspapers in the order they appear. Click here for an example.
