If an image does not contain an obituary, death notice, or similar death record, select No Extractable Data Image in the Image Type field. Documents that show only a cross-reference do not contain an obituary or similar death record and should not be indexed. Click here for an example.
Do not index records for individuals unless they were actually mentioned in the obituary. Click here for examples of when to add records for spouses whose names were mentioned together (for example, Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson or George [Mary] Johnson).
When two newspapers are recorded on the same document, you should index the name of both newspapers in the order they appear. Click here for an example.
