Significant County-wide Projects[edit | edit source]

61,787 Essex entries are included in England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906 at Ancestry (£). Formerly known as British Isles Vital Records Index - 2nd Ed. Coverage.[1]

92% of Essex's parishes are indexed in Boyd's Marriage Index (£). Coverage. Popular places to marry included the towns of Bocking, Chelmsford, and Saffron Walden.[2]

23,400 Essex entries are included in England & Wales Marriages, 1538-1940 at Ancestry (£). Formerly known as British Isles Vital Records Index - 2nd Ed. Coverage.[3]

Burials from 255 Essex places (793,723 entries) are included in the National Burial Index (£). Coverage.[4]

Essex County parish registers digitization project[edit | edit source]

  • Essex County Archivist is digitalizing parish registers county-wide and posting these images online. At the present time, this trend-setting project among just a few other counties, places numerous parishes and their church registers of christenings, marriages and burials currently for public access.
