The Diocese of Liverpool forms part of the Province of York of the Church of England and was founded in 1880 from part of the Diocese of Chester.
The diocese is divided into two Archdeaconries:
- the Archdeaconry of Liverpool
- comprises the Deaneries of Sefton, Bootle, Walton, West Derby, Liverpool North, Toxteth & Wavertree, Liverpool South - Childwall and Huyton.
- the Archdeaconry of Warrington
- comprises the Deaneries of North Meols, Ormskirk, Widnes, St Helens, Winwick, Warrington and Wigan.
