Community Wiki Support Meeting 10 October 2013

  • You can join up to 10 minutes early. If you try to join the meeting at any other time, you will get an error that the meeting doesn't exist.

Purpose of the meeting

Improve the Wiki

  • Forge solutions with other community contributors.
  • Share best practices, ideas, and content.
  • Discuss current issues, community matters, and strategies.
  • Move issues to decision.

Each member of the team will be assigned a locality on the Wiki to review to access needs and other information:

  •  moderator needed
  • strong contributors if no moderator
  • page needs
  • current adopter
  1. Please choose an area in blue, those not chosen will be assigned.
  2. Add appropriate pages beneath localities in blue in alphabetical order
  3. Begin to review localities and complete spreadsheet

    Working on FS Wiki external link page.  Preparing for group discussion.

New Helper Function is live on FamilySearch

  • Charles will help with sidebar articles

Patrolling and Amdocs Review[edit | edit source]

  • Did you see anything while patrolling this past week that would be interesting to discuss with the team?
      Sandra worked on categories for Spain (20 pages). Make sure there are categories while patrolling and they are not red.  Put the next category up so they will be connected.
  • Wilma is checking sidebars for US.
  • Templates being put on for county pages in England (Somerset, Wiltshire). 

Thank you for working on recent changes and collaborating together. It helps us to

Improve the Wiki[edit | edit source]

  • The following assignments will be placed on the talk page of a new contributor. The pages that these instructions link to will be edited to make sure they are easy for a new contributor to follow and contain information needed.

New Contributor Assignments[edit | edit source]

  1. Create your user page
  2. Create your sandbox page
  3. Join the Community (meetings, Yammer, Skype)
  4. Talk to another contributor - look at a page you would like to add to. Click the History tab. 
  5. Add a volunteer userbox.
  6. Set your preferences.
  7. Watch your favorite pages (see Tracking changes).
