Description
Cavalier County was for Charles Cavileer, a well known fur trader, customs agent and postmaster. The county seat is Langdon.[2]The county was organized on July 8, 1884 [3]

When the United States acquired North Dakota, most of the land became available for homesteading or purchase from the federal government.
