The Department of Manuscripts and University Archives is home to a wide range of material, from important medieval manuscripts to collections of personal papers dating from the twentieth century. It includes scientific collections, business archives, the records of the University and political papers.

The Cambridgeshire Collection, founded in 1855, is the county's principal Local Studies Library and continues to collect, organise and make available to the public a wide range of material relating to the past, present and future of Cambridgeshire. This material includes books, journals, newspapers, maps, ephemera and over four and a half million images and negatives of places and people. The paintings form a very small part of that collection.

The Museum of Cambridge is one of the oldest social history museums in the UK. Occupying a 17th century timber framed former coaching inn, we house a unique collection. From household objects, paintings and toys to Fenland folklore cures and customs, we tell the fascinating stories of Cambridgeshire people.
