Calcasieu River

Location
Located on the Gulf Coast in southwest Louisiana, the Calcasieu River is approximately 200 miles long. It's historical Spanish name was "Arroyo Hondo". It rises in Vernon Parish, north of Leesville, Louisiana and serves as the drainage area for both bayous and forests in that area as it flows through the Kisatchie National Forest below the city of Alexandria. It runs through Oakdale and Lake Charles Louisiana.
Historical Interest
In the early 1800s it was including in the area of dispute between the United States and Mexico under the terms of the Louisiana Purchase.
