  • The territory of the commune received the title of Villa of Alto del Carmen in 1824.
  • The territory was constituted by the communes of San Félix and El Tránsito.
  • In 1929 San Felix and El Tránsito were integrated into the municipality of Vallenar and finally in 1979 the new commune of Alto del Carmen was created in these old communes.
  • The Alto del Carmem commune has a population of approximately 6,000 people.[1].
