2nd Regiment, Florida Infantry (Confederate)

Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 2nd Infantry Regiment Infantry (Confederate) completed its organization at Jacksonville, Florida, in July, 1861. Its twelve companies contained men from Escambia, Columbia, Leon, Marion, Jackson, Alachua, St. Johns, Putnam, Hamilton, Nassau, and Madison counties.  On April 9, 1865, it surrendered.[1]  Civil War Military Units in Florida

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2,194 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
