NONA RICHARDS DYER

Nona Richards Dyer peacefully passed away at her home in Salt Lake City on December 16, 1994 following a lingering illness.

She was born February 8, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of LeGrand and Ina Jane Ashton Richards.

She married James Glenn Dyer in the Salt Lake Temple and they reared a daughter and three sons. Much of their married life was spent in the Washington, D.C. area.

She attended East High School and the University of Utah in Salt Lake and later in life obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University. As an active member of the LDS Church, she served faithfully and devotedly wherever and whenever possible, including a stake mission and callings at various times as Ward and Stake President to the Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society organizations. She was especially noted for her work with and presentations to the young men and women of the Church. Equally active in community, social, and civic affairs, she volunteered service to the needy, to political candidates, to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and served as President of the Utah Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. A special highlight was serving as a delegate to the national electoral college. She was always a friend to those in need and will be remembered and loved by everyone with whom she made contact.

She is survived by her husband of Salt Lake; daughter, Nancy Shill of Wellsville; sons, Robert, John, and Winston of San Diego, Mesa, and Rexburg, respectively; sisters, Mercedes Kiepe, Noreen Callister, and Marian Boyer; brothers, Lamont and Alden Richards; 31 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 1994 at 1 p.m. in the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive (2520 East). Friends may call at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Sunday the 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Stake Center on Monday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 19, for Nona Richards Dyer, 73, a former president of the Utah Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge and an LDS Church worker.

The services for Mrs. Dyer, who died Friday, Dec. 16, 1994, at her Salt Lake home following a lingering illness, were held in the Monument Park LDS Stake Center. Burial was at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.

Mrs. Dyer, who was a daughter of the late Elder LeGrand Richards of the Council of the Twelve and Ina Jane Ashton Richards, had been active many years in the Freedoms Foundation. She served on a number of committees with the group and had served as a public relations chairwoman.

''No one was more committed to the principles of freedom and sharing the message of peace and love than was Nona Dyer. She will be greatly missed across the nation. She was very well known throughout the Freedom's Foundation,'' said Alma Welch, former chapter president and now regional adviser of the Pacific and Western states in the foundation.

Mrs. Dyer was a graduate of Brigham Young University, had served a stake mission and had served as a ward and stake president in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society organizations. She had also been active in service to the needy, to political candidates and in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
