There were 210 persons recorded on the 1803 Census in the village of Gadendorf, which is in the parish of Giekau.  Jürgen Doose (sometimes spelled Dose or Dohse) and Asmus Schöning (sometimes spelled Schoening or Schoning) were my 5X great grandparents - based on a very sparse paper trail - and this is where they were born, married, had children and died.  All the names on that census sound familiar because I see them repeated throughout many family members that ultimately ended up migrating to the American Midwest in the mid-19th Century.  So, the plan is to try to identify everyone on the 1803 Census.  This story will change as I add people.  Wish me luck!

Side note:  Google translate turned "Hufen-Pächter" into ""Hooves Tenant"". I was told that the Panker estate operated a dairy farm, and that they provided an acreage to some of their workers. I assume that those with "Hufen-Pächter" in the notes are the people with an acreage.

Side note:  Several persons who were either older or single mothers had a note of:  “spinnt für Geld”, which Google translates into:  “is crazy for money”.  Another translation is:  "spins for money".  I have since heard from people with much more knowledge of German than me, and they explained that this was a way for women to make money to support their families.  They were most likely to be spinning wool to sell to make money.
