Red Oak Express Red Oak, Montgomery, Iowa Tuesday, October 7, 1997 Nancy B. Smith, 76 Services for Nancy B. Smith, 76, Red Oak, are today at 10 a.m. at Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Elder Tom Callender officiates and burial is in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. She died Saturday (Oct. 4,1997) at Red Oak Good Samaritan Center following an extended illness. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society. Mrs. Smith was born Sept 30, 1921, in Coin to William and Gladys (Elam) Thom and attended Long Branch School near Clarinda. She married Jesse Smith in Rock Port, MO on Aug. 1,1942. A lifelong resident of southwest Iowa, she worked at Union Carb.de in Red Oak and, most recently, had been a cleaning lady. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse, on April 6, 1983; three grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Thom; and two sisters, Thelma Shadduck and Violet Miller. Survivors include three sons. Bob Smith and his wife, Melvia, of Glenwood, Kenny Smith and his wife, Connie, of Creston and Danny Smith and his wife, Arlene, of Red Oak; a stepdaughter. Crystal May White of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Flossie Schurr and Darlene Major, both of Red Oak, Hazel Watts of Atlantic, Marie Swigart of Maryville, MO and Pauline Moore of Scappoose, OR; and a sister-in-law, Nina Thom of Omaha.
