MARVIN L. HAGEN WESTBY, WIS. La Crosse Tribune (WI) | 9 January 1999 MARVIN L. HAGEN, 83, OF WESTBY, DIED JAN. 6, 1999, at Norseland Nursing Home.He was born April 2, 1915, to Haakon and Clara (Stigen) Hagen in Westby. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. On Nov. 20, 1937, he was united in marriage to Marie O. Thorsgard of New England, N.D. He was employed at the Westby Co-op Creamery for 28 years, with 14 of those years as a butter maker. he farmed for 10 years. When he retired in 1977, he and Marie purchased the Grill Cafe and operated that for five years. He was a member of the Westby Historical Society, Norskedalen, and the Westby Rod and Gun Club. He was a past member of the Sons of Norway.In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Jack) Gates of Bozeman, Mont.; one son, Ronald (Sue) Hagen of Oshkosh; five grandchildren, Tamie Moe of Redmond, Wash., Daniel (Robyn) Moe of Cave Creek, Ariz., Staci, Heidi and Stephanie Hagen of Oshkosh; three stepgrandchildren, Cheryl (Steve) Hanson of Snoqualmie, Wash., Greg (Denyce) Gates of Seattle, Wash., Barry (Donna) Gates of Bothell, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Heather Flikkema, Redmont, Wash., Brett Flikkema, Phoenix, Ariz.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Vanessa Gates and Spencer Gates of Brier, Wash.; three sisters, Cleo Jefson of Westby, Eunice Brendum of Hudson and Janet (William) Fahey of Phillips; three brothers-in-law, Alfred Thorsgard of St. Cloud, Minn., LeRoy (Louise) Thorsgard of Hettinger, N.D. and Orville (Evelyn) Haugen of Reeder, N.D.; 18 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Robert David, 5 months and Ann Marie, 9 months; four sisters, Florence and Maydelle Hagen, Gladys Ottum and Doris Burkhardt. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church with Pastors Paul Jordahl and Steven Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.
