Genevieve M. Lenzen, 96, Cook, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing. She was born on May 14, 1914 in Browns Valley, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Teckla (Schumuker) Bachel. She later moved to St. Cloud and worked at the Ace Café. She met her future husband, Michael “Lloyd” Lenzen at a dance in St. Cloud, and they wed on May 28, 1935, in St. Cloud. Lloyd was employed as a polisher at Rex Granite Company in St. Cloud. They moved to Cook in 1951, and lived in the area since. Gen was a dedicated homemaker and longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cook. She was a life member of the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757 Auxiliary. She and Lloyd enjoyed picking berries, especially chokecherries, blueberries and plums, of which they made jellies and jams. Gen liked playing Bingo, reading, and the challenge of solving cross word puzzles. She was talented at embroidery- making detailed dish towels, pillow cases and dresser scarves. She was a gifted baker, and loved baking for her grandchildren. She is survived by 3 sons, Kenneth Lenzen, Michael (Deloy) Lenzen, and Gene (Debra) Lenzen; 3 daughters, Doris Mae (Robert) Johnson, Judith (William) Parsons and Kelly (Ronald) Flack; 2 sisters, Marie Doroff and Irene Doroff; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Waataja Lenzen; 25 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren, 11 Great Great Grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Michael “Lloyd” on July 16, 2001; 2 sons, George Lenzen on May 22, 1971 and Richard Lenzen on July 24, 2003; 2 grandsons, Richard “Ricky” Johnson on March 30, 2010 and Kraig Lenzen, who died in infancy on May 21, 1962; 2 brothers, Donald and Ralph “Buster” Bachel; and 1 sister, Evelyn Funk. SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 PM Thursday (August 26th) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cook. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Joseph M. Thomas, MCBS will be the celebrant. St. Mary’s Choir will sing and Marjorie Miller will provide the accompaniment. The casket bearers will be Genevieve’s granddaughters: Bobbi Jean Bush, Bobbi Jo Debeltz, Tina Yaeger, Tracey Flack, Toni Boone and Terri Jansen. Interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
