Elsa my great-grandmother was born in Blekinge Sweden in 1862 in a place called Thorup, or as her sister said "tulip".; this was in the parish of Asarum.  Her daughter, my grandmother at the age of 14 recorded in her bible (the one that she got when she was confirmed) the following:

So you see that this was a family of Swedish immigrants.  
Elsa while raising her children emphasized that they never go to bed without settling disputes.  She would usually sit in the kitchen, windows open, wearing a shawl and a kerchif, maintaining the fire and cooking.  However after lunch she lay down for a nap; she did not want the boys to work on the farm while she was sleeping in case they got hurt.  She came to live in Clatskanie Oregon after homesteading in Marshland.  This last place was well named as it was a flood plain.  She put up with the flooding for 2 seasons (the water over the doorknob)  before rowing her family to higher ground and building near relatives in Clatskanie.  She worked hard all of her life rearing her family on the farm.  The following are other records I have found.
