Death Register of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Otis, KS has entry that reads: Elizabeth Mary Brack, born November 29, 1879, died October 12, 1938 in Great Bend, buried October 14, 1938 in Otis, 58 years 10 months and 10 days old of "diabetes". October 21, 1938 - Bison Courier - Obituary Mrs. Elizabeth Mary Brack Mrs. Elizabeth Mary Brack, daughter of Mr. Phillip Herdt and his wife, Margaret, nee Herdt, was born November 19, 1879 at Schoenfeld, Russia. She was baptized in the same year in the Lutheran Church. In 1902 her parents emigrated to this country arriving in New York, July 2. They took their first abode in Barton County and joined the Methodist Church. So it happened that the deceased was confirmed in that church. June 31(sic), 1897, she was united in marriage to Mr. George Brack. This union was blessed with 12 children, 5 of whom preceded their mother in death. From 1897 to 1902 she lived with her husband on a farm in Barton County, 5 1/2 miles northeast of Otis and form 1902 to 1916 on another farm 9 miles north of Otis, which has been the home of the departed ever since. This is a brief outline of Mrs. Brack's life. We can only surmise how much work and toil, what joy and sorrow, what trials and hardships it embraced. It was the life of a mother spent and consumed in the service of her family and it was a life filled with much suffering. Since 1916 she was suffering from diabetes, which slowly undermined her life and strength. From 1920 on she was compelled at least once a year to go to the Great Bend Hospital for special treatments. But the best she could get was only temporary relief. On Oct. 6, she was again taken to the Great Bend Hospital but this time medical skill could not even give her relief and she realized herself that her end was approaching. She requested and received the Lord's Supper. She passed away, Wednesday, October 12 at 8:25 o'clock a.m., having reached the age of 58 years, 10 months and 10 days. Her departure is mourned by her husband, Mr. George Brack, of Otis, Kansas and by her 7 children, Mrs. Solomon Brack, Hesville, Ind., Mrs. Benj. Brack, Alexander, Kansas; Mrs. Louis Roenfeldt, Tampa, Texas; Mrs. Manuel Schlegel, Mrs. George Brack, Jr., Mrs. Herman Brack, and Mrs. Jacob Brack, all of Otis, Kansas, and by 24 grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her passing, a brother, Mr. Peter Herdt, of Fort Morgan, Colorado. The funeral service was held at the Otis High School Auditorium, conducted by Rev. H. Raum and the body was laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
