It is with sadness that family of the late Mr. Mathew Paul Hofforth, beloved husband of the recently deceased, Mrs. Barbara Hofforth, (August 30, 2008) announce his passing which occurred at the Valleyview Care Facility on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the age of 92 years. Mathew was raised in the Foremost area on a farm north of town. He attended a 2 room country school north of Foremost, near Maleb, Alberta. Mathew married the love of his life Barbara Roth on July 29, 1946, in Bow Island at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Together they farmed for 21 years before retiring to Lethbridge in 1969. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1998 to be closer to family. Mathew honored his country by serving in WWII with the Canadian Army from March 1941 to September 1945 and lived to share his stories. He enjoyed life on the farm with hard work, honesty and discipline. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed keeping his garden well groomed, and the farm equipment in top notch working order. In his past time, he enjoyed reading, working the garden and keeping the lawn in good condition. If there was ever a baseball game on T.V., you could find him in his chair keeping up the his favorite team. Family holidays to the mountains and trips to the USA were some of his most memorable occasions. Mathew will be forever missed by his daughter, Darlene (Angelo) Lamonato; sisters, Irene Bittner and Mina (John) Sekerka, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Mathew was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; sister, Barbara Albertson; and his six brothers, Jack, John, Felix, Peter, Tony and Bernie.
