I am going to try explain this so you will not get confused. But Matthias Hunsinger and Mary Gears had a son named Adam whose middle name was Sears (based on land record in Illinois). Adam Sears Huinsinger Vol 110 page 080 type FD NENW sec 34 twp 03S Range 09E 40 acres from "Original Land Grants White County, Illinois" published White County Hsitorical Society 1992 from office of George H.Ryan Secretary of State. I believe (I have not seen it ) the bible page is Mary Sears not Gears . Probably the S was fancy and so had more loop making people believe it was a G. I have documented Matthias Hunsinger and their children in the early years. In the inventory of Matthias Hunsinger it lists William Imlar as executor. William Imbler would have been Mary Sears brother in law of her sister Francis. I have a document from 1844 land deed that lists the Sears children of a John Sears deceased. (this includes Mary Grigsby). I have found that Mary Gears married Charles Grigsby after Matthias Hunsinger. I have Matthias Hunsinger bought land on Cypress Creek waterway. (the Sears were on Pond Creek, he had land there but bought in 1805 and died that year. Charles Grigsby had land on Cypress Creek. The only Grigsby in the tax when the Sears first arrive is Charles. Because they named Adam Hunsinger with middle name Sears I believe this is convincing evidence that my Mary Sears is your Mary Gears. Oh by the way I have Matthias Hunsinger records when he lived in Rowan County, North Carolina, guess what so did Mary Sears family. I have many more records on the family. Mary Sears parents are Johnanes Zaher (became Sears in North Carolina). His wife was Barbara Miller. I am related to Johannes Zaher first wife we don't know her name they were from Switzerland. Their first son Christian was born there and their second son John was born in Pennsylvania. John is my line. The following are my family group sheet notes on Matthias Hunsinger. Members of Pleasant Baptist Church, Burnt Prairie, White County,Ill. An article found in a Scrapbook no dates or other information: Observe 100th Birthday of Mount Pleasant Church. A memorial event of importance to the whole of White county is the celebration of the hundredth annivesary of the establishment of the Mount Pleasant Baptist church today, Thursday. This church, located three miles southeast of Burnt Prairie has been linked closely to the welfare and progress of our county for the past century. Those sturdy pioneers of the community, who a hundred years ago decided to build for themselves and their families a house of worship, carried their religion into their every day lives, treating their fellow men with the same honesty and respect that they themselves demanded. A hundred years ago Elder Stephen Williams and Elder Elias Roberts, with brethren F. Simpson, William and James Taylor, all of the Burnt Prairie Church met with the following to constitute Mount Plesant Baptist church: w. M. Morgan, Fulkard Fulkerson, Daniel Hunsinger, Samuel Robertson, John Hunsinger, Jacob Matthews, Adam Hunsinger, George Pope, Adam c. Hunsinger, George Pope, Adam C. Hunsinger, Isaac Williams, Joel Calkin, George Hunsinger, Josiah Daniels, Jane Robertson, Polly Fulkerson,Elizabeth Hunsinger, Margaret Puntney, Polly Hunsinger, Polly Bailey, Elmyra Crowder, Sally Williams, Eliza Vaught, Margaret Vaught, Charlotte Crowder, Margaret Ralls, Anna Roberts,Permelia Coleman, Nancy Coleman and Margaret Hunsinger. As a result of this meeting a little log church was built, where in they and their families worshiped until the year 1867, when the church was torn down and a more commodious building erect on the same site- a building erected on the same site-building that is still in use today. Elder Elias H. Roberts was named the first pastor of Mount Pleasant church and officated in that capacity until his death in 1833. He also has the distinction of being the first person buried in Mount Pleasant cemetery. Succeeding Elder Roberts came Elder William Watkins, Charles Whiting, Slade Smith, Lewis Hunsinger, John Hunsinger, William Defur and Lewis Hon prior to the year 1886. In the year Elder A.J. Coale assumed the pastorate and for forty-three years brought God's message to the Mount Pleasant congregation, his labors being terminated by his death in July, 1929. Elder A. J. Coale was a minister of rare ability and coupled his great knowledge as a Bible studant with a fervor and sincertiy of delivery that always brought happiness and satisfaction of his hearers. He was the father of A. J. Coale, Carmi verterinarian.Elder Coale was succeeded by m. L. Gwaltney, present pastor of Mount Plesant Church, who was endeared himself to his congregation during his pastorate.Mount Pleasant church has about 120 members at the present time and holds regular meetings on Saturday before the fourth Sunday in each month, as well as on the Sundays following. The birthday celebration today will take the form of an all day meeting at which special music and addresses of eulogy commemorating those pastors and members of former years whose work made possible the present church. a basket dinner will be a feature and a large crowd is expected at the meeting. All of the records of the church are a splendid state of preservation and minutes of every meeting are strictly kept. Carmi Times Sesquicentennial Edition 9 Dec 1965 by Patricia S. The first ground deeded to the church was two acres, cost being ten dollars. Later eight more acres were acquired. A frame building was erected in the year 1867 and was replaced with a glazed tile structure in 1949. All the records are in the original writing well preserved having been rebound.
