Notes

An index for Illinois, County Marriages is available online, click here.

Microfilm of originals in the Kane County courthouse in Geneva, Illinois.

See "References" for a published version of the indexes found in the film notes.

The registers are in chronological order.

The marriage certificates/licenses are in order by certificate/license numbers which are also found in the indexes and many of the registers. The certificate/licenses are not in good chronological order, however. Use the dates associated with them in the film notes as a guide only (“ca.” is an abbreviation of the word circa which means approximately). Use the indexes to find the license number of the person you are looking for before looking at the certificate/licenses.

If a name is not found in the indexes it still might be in the registers, especially if it is with one of the unnumbered marriages

Please note that the certificate/license numbers start over again at “1” with film #1477043, item 2 (ca. 1877).

Indexes include license numbers which can be used to access the certificates/licenses & sometimes book & page numbers which can be used to access the registers (dates are useful to finding names in the registers too). Though indexes may be labeled as registers, consider them indexes.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
