"Among the Connecticut Archives are files of the General Assembly up to 1820. These, classified according to subject matter, have been divided into twenty-two subjects. The First Series of the subject, Revolutionary War, is composed of thirty-seven volumes covering the years 1763-1789 from files of the General Assembly arranged, about 1845, by Sylvester Judd, author of the History of Hadley, Massachusetts. The Second Series of this subject is composed of fifty-six volumes, most of which were transferred from Office of the State Comptroller and the others were compiled from miscellaneous sources. The Third Series of six volumes is composed principally of documents from 1790 through 1820 which were transferred from Office of the Secretary of State when the new State Library and Supreme Court building were occupied. There are, however, in the Third Series a few documents of an earlier date omitted by Mr. Judd from the First Series. The earliest date in this series is June 1765 which is found on a circular letter from the Massachusetts Assembly in regard to the Stamp Act Congress and the latest date is May 1820 which is found on a private petition for damages for a house destroyed in the British raid at Fairfield. The six volumes in the Third Series, numbering one thousand and

seventy-five documents, have been arranged as follows: I Army and Navy; Defense of the State; Taxation; Loyalists: II Confiscated estates: III Pensions and relief for disabled; Soldiers' notes; Private claims and petitions; Abner - Guthrie: IV Private claims and petitions (continued) Hall - Pearman: V Private claims and petitions (continued) Peck - Young: VI Miscellaneous, i.e. Council of safety; Commissariat; Embargo; Society of the Cincinnati, etc. The table of contents not only furnishes a convenient calendar of legislation on the subjects included in the Revolutionary War for the period covered but gives a digest of the subject matter. The work on the arrangement of manuscripts for these volumes and on the Index was done by Jessie A. Parsons."

Includes partial index in each volume.

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
