Ancestry of the author, Howard Redwood Guild, son of Nathaniel Grosvenor and Amey Richmond Humphreys Guild. Nathaniel Grosvenor Guild was born in 1837, the son of Deacon Calvin Guild (b. 1808) and Margaret Taft Guild (1806-1891), of Dedham, Massachusetts. He married Amey Richmond Humphreys in 1860. They had seven children, 1861-1879. Nathaniel Grosvenor Guild was, for many years, a successful cotton broker and manufacturer at Providence, Rhode Island. Amey Richmond Humphreys was born in 1840, the daughter of James Humphreys (1804- 1873) and Rebecca Covell Martin Humphreys of Providence, Rhode Island. Ancestors and relatives lived in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and elsewhere.
Ancestors include John Guild (1616-1682) of Scotland? and Dedham, Massachusetts; Robert Taft (1640-1725) of Scotland? and Mendon, Massachusetts; Jonas Humphrey (d. 1662) of Wendover, Bucks County, England and Dorchester, Massachusetts; and Richard Martin (d. 1694) of Swansey, Wales and Rehobeth, Massachusetts.
